Dry irritated skin
Do you have dry irritated skin and want to improve it? Not only does dry skin look and feel uncomfortable, it may also be a symptom of a skin disease like eczema. This article will give you the facts about dry skin, the reason why you get it and how to solve the problem, leaving your skin looking better and more supple than ever before.
Dry skin is often caused by insufficient lubrication by the oil glands of the skin, making it dehydrated. Exposure to weather elements and the environment such as sun, wind, or even staying out excessively during winter time also cause dry irritated skin. Other causes may be genetic, or perhaps due to a poor diet, deficient in vitamins A and B. So, if you have dry skin, chances are, you’ve been out too long, your parents are also prone to dry skin, or you have a poor diet to begin with. The good news? You can change everything but your genes. There are many ways to soothe and improve dry irritated skin.
Improving your skin involves first and foremost, the proper care. Drink lots of water to keep it hydrated, and eat foods which are high in vitamins A and B, as well as beta-carotene, which is an anti-oxidant. When cleansing your skin, never use hot water, and as much as possible, try to avoid tap water. Pick a soap that is not too high in alkaline content. Avoid commercial soaps, which contain more detergents and preservatives, as these will surely contribute to your dry skin. Invest also in a good moisturizer which you can use after cleansing. Be generous with creams and lotions, as these will help restore moisture and in the end will help you prevent not only dry skin but wrinkles or quickly aging skin as well.
A good and relaxing idea is to have an herbal facial sauna for your skin. Herbs which help improve dry skin are aloe vera, calendula and comfrey, tea tree oil, etc. Try your very own facial sauna using herbs like chamomile, lavender and peppermint. Having these saunas once a week will not only refresh and relax you, but leave your skin moisturized and healthier looking.
If dry irritated skin persists, it would probably be best to visit a dermatologist, who can recommend the proper diet, the proper soaps to use, or perhaps pinpoint a skin disease or other ailment which may be causing your skin to be dry and irritated.
