Winter dry skin

Winter dry skin

Is dry ski during the winter time crimping your style and putting a damper on your mood? Do you have what is commonly known as the “winter itch” because of your dry and irritated skin? This article will help you improve your skin even in the harshest of winter weather, and will help you retain its rosy and glowing look.

Dry skin is a result of insufficient water and oils in the skin because it is allowed to escape from what is called the stratum corneum. This can be caused by too much soap, harsh chemicals exposure, or even the normal aging process. Cracks occur when the stratum corneum becomes dry and actually shrinks. This will leave your skin cells vulnerable to irritants and germs that are in the environment.

The most effective way to avoid winter dry skin is to seal the moisture in. You can do this by always remembering to moisturize your skin after a bath. The moisture you get from a bath will be trapped by the moisturizer, and will make your skin a lot softer, less dry, cracked or itchy. There are many kinds of moisturizers. These include ointment moisturizers, oil moisturizers, cream moisturizers and lotion moisturizers. Choose a moisturizer that is most effective and one that you are most comfortable using. Ointment moisturizers and cream moisturizers are usually greasier than cream moisturizers and lotion moisturizers, which disappear when applied. A good point to consider is also that some moisturizers may contain chemicals that may cause allergic reactions in some people. It is always a good idea to try a small amount on your body, and if any irritation occurs, try another in the same class with a different set of ingredients.

Showers are generally better than baths, and try to avoid hot water. Use commercial soap as rarely as possible and go for dry skin soap which is more PH neutral and is less likely to irritate or dry out your skin. Also try various soap substitutes that are available in the market. After your bath, pat your skin dry and quickly apply moisturizer. Also, as winter dry skin occurs mostly due to low humidity, try to increase the humidity at work or at home.

You don’t need to suffer winter dry skin this year. Just follow our easy advice, and soft, supple, and moisturized looking skin will no longer be something you need to place on your Christmas list.
